You're saying the SNP must state the policy now but Labour doesn't have to say anything and then when they win the election and introduce fees the SNP will have won the moral argument?

Why don't you recommend setting up a public debate of ALL the Holyrood Parties to discuss fees and their policies? Wouldn't that let all of us know what their position is? Indeed, let's invite them all to submit shadow budgets ahead of the election and that way they'll need to actually produce policies instead of fairy tales. And while we're on about budgets, let's ask them about prescription charges too! But for heaven's sake let's make it fair.Jo Ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08536467440869239587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22403989.post-27307762995055256642010-12-11T16:06:17.554+00:002010-12-11T16:06:17.554+00:00I was personally appalled at the scenes in London ...I was personally appalled at the scenes in London the other day. Such behaviour is not acceptable Iain and if you want it to come north I do hope you're not suggesting we should welcome the same scenes here. (The demo in Glasgow on Thu was disorderly in places.)

Students may demonstrate but it was disgusting to hear so many in the media condemning police in London when they were confronted by such absolute violence. What are they to do? Does it matter that the violent are in the minority? The point is the majority MUST make it clear they don't want the violent there and identify them.

Otherwise, as far as I'm concerned, bring on the water cannon! We simply cannot have scenes like this on our streets and as long as they continue students will lose support. They have certainly lost mine. And you can smirk about what happened to the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall Iain but it wasn't funny to watch and it must have been terrifying for them.Jo Ghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08536467440869239587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22403989.post-80007846780576298762010-12-10T14:15:30.775+00:002010-12-10T14:15:30.775+00:00vooo makes a good point viz. the disctinction betw...vooo makes a good point viz. the disctinction between 'u-turn' and 'defeat-by-unionist-cabal'. However, I liked your exposition in general. The whole student fees thing drives me nuts ('cause I don't understand it fully) with the complication of the devolved jurisdictions (rarely mentioned on UK news). I also don't have a real grip on the issue of when you have to start paying. The "I would never have gone to uni" argument only works up to certain point (i.e. parents combined income).MekQuarriehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09818669820171475600noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22403989.post-25609539487062481042010-12-10T11:15:53.465+00:002010-12-10T11:15:53.465+00:00Good article Iain, but it's a bit misleading t...Good article Iain, but it's a bit misleading to imply that the SNP not being able to get through policies like minimum pricing and LIT represent U-turns.
Point the finger at the guilty parties Iain.voiceofourownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09821703633244094283noreply@blogger.com
