"Climate Change is a Lie and a Fraud"

Well, that's what a lot of people think following the revelations at the University of East Anglia, where climate scientists appeared to be manipulating data on global warming.

But if this is really what you think, you are pitting yourself against the overwhelming consensus among scientists world-wide.

There is not a single credible scientific organisation - as opposed to individual scientists -  in the world that still disputes the case for climate change.

All the national academies of science of all the industrialised countries accept the case for man made climate change.

Here's a list of the world's leading scientific organisations that have looked at anthropogenic climate change.  Click on the links to see why they think this.

I wonder if the lack of urgency from politicians for the last ten years has added to the cynicism and anti-science stance of many 'non believers'.

It's interesting that for a party like the SNP, the carbon emission are only one element, the key driver is economic impact of generating energy.

Politicians at cabinet level know the situation and will accept the scientific consensus. However they are in the end at the mercy of their backbenchers, the vested interests, the public and the media. The backbenchers are not clever enough to understand the science and are too arrogant to admit it. They will believe whatever keeps them their seat at the next election.

The public are for the most part ignorant of what is and is not science. Listening to career politician’s scripted pronouncements or uninformed debates among the political bottom feeders will not help. The ‘vested interests’ know they will lose the debate in the long term but this does not matter. They are simply funding disinformation to stall the inevitable and to maximise profit in the meantime.

The media, by treating this as a political debate, have created a distortion of information in the public mind. The small quantity of uninformed (often dishonest) views of Lobbyists, ‘maverick scientists’, nearly scientists, and self publicising latter day Erich von Dänikens is given the same, or greater status in the media than the vast body of properly researched studies that have followed scientific procedures. The public are being played for fools by irresponsible and selfish industrialists. Without a particular interest in, and understanding of, climate sciences there is only the popular media to inform. Whether due to lack of intelligence, laziness or who is ‘paying the piper’, the UK media is not up to the job. The consequences may be catastrophic.

Ah well Iain the people who deny climate change just do not want to know!

They seem to ignore the common sense facts like the Earths atmosphere was built up over billions of years and now that humans are around and are doubling their population every so often and are clearing the planet of trees and killing off the plankton in the sea - things that have had, and still have, a major role in maintaining the balance of CO in our atmosphere they still insist that it has nothing to do with us.

The scientific consensus of the day once believed the world was flat, the sun revolved around the earth, and gold could be manufactured. Nobody sane believes those things nowadays. Why should we expect scientists to be any less craven than bankers and government officials when it comes to suppressing inconvenient data that does not support their program of action? These "scientists" are reduced to posing Groucho Marx's question, 'Who are you going to believe, me or your own eyes?' Thanks for the laugh, fellows.
